The Muslim culture of the Barobazar is rich, and it has an interesting past. It goes by the names Gazi-Kalu-Champaboti and Baro Awlia.
According to historical accounts, Barobazar was established in 1268 AD as the imperial Muslim viceroy Sultan Mug-es-Uddin Tugrol of Bengal’s residence.
Under Sultan Samsuddin Elias Shah (1342 AD) and his son Sultan Sikandar Shah (1357 AD), it was a province ruled by Shonargonj. The community and its environs are home to numerous historic mosques, archaeological sites, and shrines.
